Week 2 of the college football season was more dramatic than anticipated. Northern Illinois upset Notre Dame. Even for Notre Dame, that was bad. Texas humiliated Michigan. Nebraska dominated Colorado. Is Nebraska legit or is Colorado that bad?
One of the more interesting ranking moves was Texas usurping Ohio State's No. 2 spot based on the Horns commanding performance against the No. 10 Wolverines. The Buckeyes dominated Western Michigan 0-56 and haven't allowed a touchdown this season. That wasn't enough for voters to keep the Bucks at two. Time will tell if Texas' win over Michigan is a quality win; if Michigan continues to fall, the win will be less valuable.
No. 12 Tennessee easily handled No. 23 NC State, defeating the Wolfpack 51-10 led by first-year quarterback Nico Iamaleava's 211 passing yards and two passing touchdowns.
No. 4 Alabama rallied in the fourth quarter with 28 points to a 42-16 win vs. South Florida. Before the last quarter, it was still either team's game. This week's game against Wisconsin at Camp Randall will be a tougher test.
No. 13 Oklahoma also struggled for much of Saturday but managed to hold off former Big 12 opponent Houston 16-12.
WHAT TO WATCH IN WEEK 3:
No. 9 Oregon has looked sluggish for the start of their B1G tenure. Will they be able to get it together against rival (still?) Oregon State?
No. 18 Notre Dame will have to re-group and travel to face the Boilermakers in what will likely be a close game. Let's see if Irish still have some fight in 'em.
No. 6 Missouri faces an undefeated and surging No. 24 Boston College. The last time these two teams met was in the great Commonwealth of Massachusetts where Boston College fans stormed the field after an overtime win against the Tigers. BC won on the road against now unranked Florida State on Sept. 2. Can they head into Columbia and tame the Tigers again?
Battle of the Wildcats: No. 14 Kansas State hosts No. 20 Arizona. Arizona looked dominant against tough opponents last season and a win this week can have them in serious contention for the College Football Playoffs.
